The Relationship between the lungs, autumn, sadness & grief

As we head towards October, the leaves start to turn and the temperature drops. The realization that autumn is on its way or is here! It’s time to prepare for the next season. The lungs in Chinese medicine are associated with autumn, hence why you are more prone to coughs and colds entering this time of year if your lung energy is weak.

In Chinese medicine, every organ is associated with an emotion, and the emotion of the lungs is sadness and grief. The lungs are also associated with clear thinking and communication, openness to new ideas.

Autumn is a good time to finish projects that you began in spring and summer – Enjoying the fruits of your hard work. it's also the perfect time to begin more introspective, indoor projects.

As the seasons transition from the heat of summer to the coolness of autumn and then the cold of winter, our bodies' needs change as well. We can protect our bodies and boost our winter immunity from viruses and bacteria using Acupuncture.

The lungs control the circulation of the Wei-Qi, which is the defensive Qi (immune system) that protects you from the invasion of flu and colds. The Wei-Qi circulates on the surface between the skin and muscles and works to warm the body. If the Wei-Qi is weak, the skin and muscles will not be warmed properly. This is why people tend to feel cold when they’re sick. A weakness in the lungs can lead to a weakness in the Wei-Qi. making a person more prone to frequent colds. TCM Acupuncture helps to regulate and strengthen the bodys Wei-Qi.

The nose is the opening to the lungs, and you can prevent colds by keeping your nose and sinuses clean and clear. If you suffer from a runny nose or sinus infections, acupuncture can help to clear the nasal cavities and sinus area.

When treating the Lungs through acupuncture, because of its association with sadness, grief and letting go, it can bring up some strong emotions that we have deeply suppressed. After a while these suppressed emotions can make us sick, prevent us from moving forward in our lives, create fear and stagnation or just leave us feeling stuck! To help the body process these heavy emotions I use Reiki alongside acupuncture to help the body release and restore itself on a cellular level. Giving it the opportunity to let go of any stuck emotions in the body that might be blocking you from moving forward in life.
